Curtis Brainard and Betwa Sharma are CJR reporters. Brainard is the editor of The Observatory, CJR’s online critique of science and environment reporting. Sharma is a freelance journalist focusing on human rights and international relations. Her work has appeared in Time.com, The Indian Express, Irish Times, and The Daily News. She has a master’s degree in international law from Cambridge University and is presently enrolled in the M.A. program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she recently completed her M.S.
