Steve Wasserman is a former editor of the Los Angeles Times Book Review and is currently managing director of the New York office of the literary agency Kneerim & Williams at Fish & Richardson, where his clients include Columbia Journalism Review. He is also book editor of www.truthdig.com. His essay is dedicated to the memory of Eugen Weber (1925-2007).
