It’s all too reminiscent of the political horse race coverage we read during the 2004 presidential campaign. After all of the mea culpas, hand-wringing and breast-beating that the national press corps engaged in after that sad-sack performance (and indeed, after the 2000 race as well), we held out some hope that things might be different this time around.
And maybe they will. But this is not a promising start.

It doesn't matter what the Lucy Press says about the ball, to expect that this time they won't act in the worst way possible, is to fall into the Linus trap (again!).
If Linus had "accidentally" missed the ball and hit her in the head..... well the analogy falls apart here... but we need to act in a way that will provide concequences that make it obvious that the press is acting as a partisan accomplice at the very least, at the same time not expecting them to be otherwise.
Lamont's ads did a pretty good job of that, and points the way for all honest Democrats.
