A Seat at the (Picnic) Table For Fox News?

July 29, 2009

Is there space for Team Fox & Friends at that presidential picnic table for tomorrow night’s “teachable moment” with beer?

Because, based on their chatter this morning, there seems to be — yes, interest in what might transpire at the meeting between Pres. Obama, Prof. Gates, and Sgt. Crowley — but also (colorfully-expressed!) doubt that anything constructive might come of it.

GRETCHEN CARLSON: Is [the picnic table meeting] a press avail? Is press going to be allowed?

BRIAN KILMEADE: I think they will be allowed to spray it.

STEVE DOOCY: Absolutely, they will take pictures of it…
….

KILMEADE: I wonder, do you recount what happened? When you have Officer Crowley here with Professor Gates. If you are Barack Obama, do you say, “Guys, just tell me what happened, how do you see it? And, how do you see it?” Or do you just white-wash — bad term — do you just [say] forget all that let’s just move forward and be friends.

CARLSON: …I keep asking the question about how is this going to change anything at the end of this beer fest because the Sergeant is still going to say, “I did what I was supposed to do as a police officer.” Professor Gates is probably going to say, “I still feel this particular way.” So where does that leave President Obama? ….Why do it?

DOOCY: Look at the two men at the table. You’ve got Professor Gates, one of the smartest guys in the country when it comes to these, uh…

KILMEADE: Black Studies.

DOOCY: These Black Studies. Then you look at Officer Crowley, he actually taught how to handle situations like this at the local police academy. These are both guys at the top of their game. So neither one of them is going to cave…
