Journalist and author David Halberstam dies

On this day in 2007, David Halberstam, prolific author and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, died in a car accident in Menlo Park, CA. He was 73.

Halberstam was best known for his early work on the Vietnam War, which included an eyewitness account of the self-immolation of a Vietnamese Buddhist monk. His most famous book, The Best and the Brightest, was about President Kennedy and the intellectuals in his administration who drafted his Vietnam War policy.
