It’s hard to read about all the outstanding journalism (investigative, international, local, labor, environmental, etc.) recognized by the George Polk Awards yesterday and not wonder, as someone said in our news meeting this morning, how’s this sort of reporting going to get done going forward?
Off the top of my head, some of what CJR said back when about some of the winning work:
A “Laurel” for part one of David Barstow’s two-part “Message Machine” New York Times investigation.
Praise for NPR’s “The Giant Pool of Money.”
UPDATE: A “Laurel” to the Detroit Free Press for coverage of Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
