Last week campaign coverage filled 50% of the overall newshole, “its third-highest level of weekly coverage in 2008,” says the Project for Excellence in Journalism’s News Coverage Index from June 2-8. “The biggest week, coming in at 55% of the newshole, was Feb. 4-10, the Super Tuesday primary period.”
Cable TV ceded 74% of last week’s newshole to the campaign. In distant second place on cable (at 3%)? Scott McClellan’s book, which didn’t even crack the top ten topics covered last week in newspapers, network tv, radio, or online.
