CJR Encore Panel

As part of its pilot Encore fellowship program, CJR is currently hosting a panel of esteemed journalists who have successfully translated their journalistic skills into second careers. The panelists will serve as models for the Encore Fellows and share their experiences, and are:

PAUL STEIGER
Paul Steiger is the editor-in-chief, president, and chief executive of ProPublica, and formerly held numerous writing and editorial positions at The Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times.



CHARLES SENNOTT
Charles M. Sennott, the executive editor and vice president of GlobalPost, is an award-winning journalist and author with a distinguished 25 year career in international reporting for both print and broadcast news organizations. Sennott earned a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia.



CLARA HEMPHILL
Clara Hemphill, senior editor of the Center for New York City Affairs, was a reporter and editorial writer for New York Newsday, where she shared the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting. She was also a foreign correspondent for the AP, and a producer for CBS News.



MICHAEL CALDERONE
Michael Calderone is the media reporter for Politico. Calderone joined Politico in the start-up’s first year and reported from the campaign trail and political conventions. Before that, Calderone wrote the print media column for the New York Observer.



DAVID BANK
David Bank is a vice president at Civic Ventures and editor of Encore.org, working to establish social-impact encore careers as a new social norm. Before that, he was a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, and he reported for the San Jose Mercury News, the Los Angeles Daily News and worked as a foreign correspondent. Bank earned a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia.
