The New Yorker this week places Michelle Obama on a runway (cover illustration by Floc’h) smilingly showcasing assorted sherbet-colored fashions. (David Brooks would approve, “Thunder and Lightning” are safely sleeve’d; Mrs. Obama is “covered” on this cover).

Michelle Obama (in cut-out form) could also be seen on a catwalk on last night’s Daily Show, where correspondent Kristen Schaal presented the “First First Lady Fashion Show” featuring Schaal-designed clothing that speaks to some of the issues Mrs. Obama might champion (since all anyone seems to talk about is What Michelle Wears). Here, the First Lady was seen both covered (wearing a bulky fur shawl to remind Americans of the crisis in Darfur) and, um, not (a rear-less dress symbolizing the administration’s promised, yes, transparency).
