Ah, awards season. If you’re a Hollywood celebrity, February is generally a high holy month in which you: spray-tan/crash diet/consult with your stylist/Botox/detox/spray-tan some more/practice your Gracious Loser Face/crash diet some more—all in the name of being at your prettiest/wittiest/thinnest on the big night.
Web celebrity, however, has a slightly different spin on what constitutes being the prettiest, wittiest—and, in particular, thinnest—on awards night. As evidenced by last night’s Shorty Awards, which gave prizes to people who’ve proven particularly adept at keeping themselves below a certain size: 140 characters.
Twitter winners included: NASA, an international breaking news service based in the Netherlands, and Carrie Bugbee, the previously anonymous marketing consultant who twitters under the pseudohandle Peggy Olson (yep, after the Mad Men character).
