It’s tempting to view the below spoof video, where the staff of Dallas Fox affiliate KDFW goofs around on social media while covering a shooting, as some skirmish in the new v. old media battle. (The alt-weekly Dallas Observer surmises the video was screened at the state Emmy awards.)
But more likely, it’s just a silly bit that manages to a squeeze a chuckle-sprinkled three minutes out of a slightly tone deaf premise, without a mission of any greater commentary.
I think the dated GeoCities reference is a hint from the journalists that the days of Foursquare and Facebook could too pass. But of course there are potentially less charitable readings.
