Jilted, Not Wilted

May 22, 2009

Behold, JiltedJournalists.com: a site run by laid-off journalists, for laid-off journalists (motto: “We refuse to let our story end. –30–“).

The site is, perhaps, a bit contradictory in its messaging–motto notwithstanding, its current banner headline is “Are we screwed or what?“–but its main operator, Jim Gold (a former senior editor at The Arizona Republic), aided by “a group of recently laid off journalists, their spouses, friends and frenemies,” has created a helpful resource for the wayward. (Articles include “Lose a job? Seek a job? What’s going on here?” and “More ways to spend whatever money you have left.”)

And Jilted Journalists is nothing if not inclusive. “Welcome,” the site declares, “print, online, broadcast reporters, editors, photographers, bloggers, designers, ad salespeople, circulation folks, press operators, TV camera people, continuity directors, techs, producers, business office staff and all the others who once were fooled into thinking they not only had good careers and job security but decent 401(k) and pension plans that would last into their retirement years.”
