Mercury News “Sponsored Bills” Reporter nominated for a Goldsmith

February 8, 2011

San Jose Mercury News reporter Karen de Sa has been nominated for the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting, annually handed out by the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University. The report for which de Sa is nominated—a look into California’s “sponsored bills”—can be found here and features a database with which you can find out how many sponsored bills a legislator introduced into the legislature, and which groups sponsored them. Last year, we took a look at the database, and spoke to de Sa about the project, and others it had spawned.
