MoDo on the "Shiny Slot Machine of Their Mutual Ambition"

May 6, 2009

Maureen Dowd seems to have a “thing” about ambition– in others. Today she writes caustically of the “shiny slot machine of [a politician and spouse’s] mutual ambition.” And, shocker, she’s actually not referring to the Clintons. She’s talking about John and Elizabeth Edwards.

Dowd (back to ambition) ends her column this way: “The really complicated question is what [Elizabeth Edwards] hopes to gain from” the book she has written about her husband’s affair and assorted other “challenges.” No matter what New York Times readers can hope to gain from a column on, of all the “complicated questions” we face, this one.
