I mentioned yesterday that Mexican journalists are increasingly coming under siege from drug gangs, and that things are looking pretty grim south of the border.
And today, The Washington Post’s Manuel Roig-Franzia has a big front-page piece explaining that Mexico is the second most deadly country in the world for journalists behind Iraq, and drawing out the ways in which Mexican journalists are increasingly being intimidated from doing investigative work, for fear of losing their lives.
In the midst of all this, don’t forget that independent American journalist Brad Will was killed by plainclothes Mexican policemen last October in Oaxaca, Mexico while covering a demonstration. No one has yet to be prosecuted for his murder.
