From the Washington Post‘s Dan Balz:

But there ought not to be any moratorium on asking hard questions of both candidates right now, and especially of the Democratic nominee who sits in the pole position heading into the final three weeks.

There “ought not to be” such a moratorium (and, presumably, there isn’t one although if there is then that helps explain some of last week’s debate questions) “right now” (or pretty much ever). And by “hard questions” Balz means “questions not of tactics but of substance.” But is Balz pleading with fellow political reporters (to lift some sort of self-imposed moratorium)? The candidates themselves (are they taking questions these days)? Both?
