Over-aggregation, Under-attribution, and Poynter

November 10, 2011

You may have seen Poynter editor Julie Moos’s quick and thoughtful response to questions posed by CJR assistant editor Erika Fry on her site’s attribution and aggregation practices.

Jim Romenesko, the site’s must read (and transitioning) media-news blogger, will now be subject to a new level of editing after Moos concluded that “too many” of his posts “exhibit a pattern of incomplete attribution.”

“Jim has offered to resign and I refused to accept his resignation,” Moos wrote.

Moos’s post came before a scheduled interview with Erika, who plans to write more on this in the very near future.

Clint Hendler is the managing editor of Mother Jones, and a former deputy editor of CJR.
