At the risk of seeming to channel some inner Andy Rooney, I can’t help but wonder why the front page of today’s New York Times sports section has articles about cockfighting in the Dominican Republic and the Beagle who won the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. These are sports? At best they are games, and in the case of the dog show probably more like a beauty pageant. Where is the coverage of dominoes, or marble tournaments? Hell, Wii-based video games are more sport-ish than a dog show.
