Paul Giblin, one of a two-reporter team yesterday awarded a Pulitzer for local reporting for the East Valley Tribune (Mesa, AZ), was laid off by that paper in October, as was Patti Epler, the editor for the prize-winning project. Jeff Bercovici reached Epler at the Arizona Guardian (the web site she, Giblin, and two other former Tribune employees launched with a focus on Arizona government and politics). Of the layoffs and the Pulitzer win she said:
