A quick scan of the front pages of today’s papers (thanks, Newseum) shows that President Obama’s second prime time press conference received slightly less A1 play than his first one last month. For example, the Washington Post forewent a photo of the president on A1 (in favor of an adorable image of a newborn clouded leopard cub at the National Zoo) and the New York Times ran a presidential picture below the fold.
Among papers with the president on A1, two words that appear frequently in headlines are “progress” (which Obama said four times last night, including that “we’re beginning to see signs of progress”) and “patience,” which Obama said just once (“We’ll recover from this recession, but it will take time; it will take patience; and it will take an understanding that when we all work together, when each of us looks beyond our own short-term interest to the wider set of obligations we have towards each other, that’s when we succeed.”)
