This month, CJR presents “Required Skimming,” a daily miniguide to our staffers’ beats and obsessions, ranging from finance to food. If we overlooked any of your must-read destinations, please tell us in the comments.
• News Cat Gifs: This newish Tumblr, following in the grand tradition of #editorrealtalk (now hosted on CJR!) shows kitties demonstrating how we journos feel throughout the work day.
• Overheard in the Newsroom: This longtime blog (and Twitter account) offers up choice, anonymous tidbits submitted from the news cycle trenches.
• Mr. Friedman, could I ask you a question: It’s all in good fun, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, honest—this clever Tumblr pokes fun at Friedman’s penchant for depicting women around the world as innocents seeking his sage advice. It’s been dark for a couple weeks, which I hope changes soon.
• On Twitter: WaPo’s Gene Weingarten, Fake Jeff Jarvis, The New Yorker’s Susan Orlean, The New York Times’s Sarah Lyall, and The New York Times is ON IT.
Has America ever needed a media watchdog more than now? Help us by joining CJR today.
