Jezebel: Gawker’s sister blog is the elder stateswoman of ladyblogs at this point (along with Feministing), but it remains relevant, witty, and just the right amount of ranty about everything from pop culture to hard news. (I don’t know if I’d be able to find it again, but I learned more about childbirth a few years back from a long chain of commenter horror stories on a Jezebel post than from anything else I’ve ever heard or read.)
The Hairpin: The Awl’s sister site, until recently run by the inimitable Edith Zimmerman, has a laugh-out-loud funny commenting community that responds to posts ranging from “Ask a queer chick” to tongue-in-cheek pie charts from CJR columnist Ann Friedman.
XX Factor: This is the blog for Slate’s Double X vertical, which had a brief life as a standalone site. Now, it’s an ongoing discussion responding to feminism and work/life balance-related issues of the day by a group of Slate staffers and regular contributors.
The Toast: This blog, by two regular contributors to Awl-related sites, launched last month. It’s not a “ladyblog,” per se, but it’s run by two smart ladies who are committed to paying writers.
