The Washington Post‘s Priorities, Cottonelle Edition

August 4, 2009

“Mouthpiece Theater”…is back. Yes. And it is, though we didn’t think it was possible, bigger and better even more inane than ever.

So the thing features Dana Milbank dressed as a mummy–oh, wait! No! Though fashioning the latest “Mouthpiece Theater” as an inexplicable “Ode to King Tut” might actually have been less random–and would surely have been more funny–than the episode Milbank and Cillizza actually gave us, it turns out that the Post‘s storied political humorist has wrapped himself in, apparently, toilet paper…to make fun of the fact that he has been “roughed up” in the blogosphere.

Yep. Hilarious! And: charming Charmin.

Cillizza–who also got his share of anger among bloggers for Friday’s video and the stupidity of the series more generally–remains, however, swathed in his smoking jacket.

Anyway, there’s really very little to say about the video, because, as usual, there’s really very little substance within it. Except that it’s remarkable how, like one of those movie aliens that feeds off the life force of humans, the series’s inflated sense of its own jocularity seems only to have expanded since Friday’s debacle. As if “Mouthpiece Theater” feasts on widespread indignation itself.

Anyway, if you’d like to see the latest video, check it out on YouTube. The Post, at this point, really doesn’t deserve the traffic.
