Ross Douthat’s latest Times column—on the subject of, yes, the culture wars—features a small typo: a missing period in the third graf, below, between “policy” and “He.” Which, when glanced at quickly, seems to ratify the Obama-as-God conceit that Douthat, of all people, surely would not want to perpetuate. Oh, the irony.

Wow, that's some close reading of Ross Douthat, there, Megan. Does the boring and dogmatic Bob Herbert come in for this sort of exigesis? Can't remember seeing it. I'm sorry, but 'conservative' chatterers continue to be held, almost unconsciously, to a much higher standard of civility, intelligence, and, I guess, typo-proof writing than boring, cookie-cutter liberals grinding out the latest lecture on how everything in the world boils down to The Forces of Tolerance vs. The Forces of Bigotry.

I totally noticed that! It's also one of the things we can look forward to more of if the Times cuts out the editorial middlemen and skews toward more web-only content.
