I share Megan’s amazement at Arianna Huffington’s entrepreneurial abilities. But, despite our current president’s rock-star appeal, I remain skeptical of this line in the Hollywood Reporter story she linked to earlier:
“There is no better time to do a show about Washington,” [executive producer Greg] Malins said. “It’s such a dynamic place right now, it’s the coolest place in the universe.”
This is either incorrect, and a terrible misjudgment, or correct, and a sign of the apocalypse. Time will tell.
My money's on option C: incorrect, and a terrible misjudgment, and yet still a sign of the apocalypse. (One rare commonality, after all, between the end-times prophesies of Nostradamus, the Mayans, and the Book of Revelations: they each mention "Congress" and "sitcom" in the same sentence.)

Reminds me of a quote attributed to Johnny Carson: "Washington is Hollywood for ugly people." I believe that includes its sense of self-importance.

As a resident of the District, I can confirm to you, alas, that Malins is most definitely incorrect—laughably so if I didn't live here myself.
DC is just about the least cool place on Earth. I'm sure my neighbors down the street, the cast and producers of Real World MLXXIV--who actually produce a show in and on DC--would report that as well.
