Media Matters for America touts itself as “a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media.”
Today, we learn that the organization has put a new and active spin on that last directive: correcting misinformation. Media Matters, the WaPo’s Greg Sargent reported this afternoon, “has bought a week of ad time on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News in D.C., New York, and Atlanta, beginning Tuesday”—which it will use to run a spot attacking Lou Dobbs for his continual coverage of the “birthers” and their cause, thus “promoting the false, right-wing conspiracy that President Obama hasn’t produced a valid U.S. birth certificate.” The ad will conclude, Sargent reports, with the line, “It’s time for ‘The Most Trusted Name in News’ to live up to its slogan. Let CNN know there’s nothing ‘legitimate’ about racially charged paranoia.”
Oh, and! The ad, on CNN, will run during Dobbs’s show.
Yes. The move, Sargent notes, makes for “an intriguing new frontier in political media criticism.” One that places CNN, in particular, in an awkward position. “It seems that Media Matters’ goal is to get CNN’s competitors to pick up on the story as news,” Sargent writes, “to bait CNN into responding, and to foment internal tensions over Dobbs within the network. Media Matters has been closely documenting the Dobbs/birther story, and this is a real escalation. It’ll be interesting to see how CNN and Dobbs react.”
Yes, it will. And it’ll be interesting, from our perspective, to see whether an organization that is “dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media” can directly affect the content of the very media it criticizes. Stay tuned.

There comes a point in time where reasonable people from anywhere on the political spectrum ought to be able to agree on what the hell reality is.
Good for Media Matters. These people need to be publicly ostracized and humiliated, and in the case of a "journalist" like Dobbs, they should be permanently blackballed in the journalism industry.
It isn't sufficient for Dobbs to be "corrected," because it's not like he's an honest person who made an honest mistake. He knowingly told an idiotic lie because he's catering to the idiot demographic.
The fact that he still has his job is an indictment of CNN. I'm baffled that someone who works for The Most Trusted Name in News can say something like that without getting fired.

And for this action, I just did something I should have done years ago: I subscribed to Media Matters and donated money. And if the Kicker keeps kicking "journalists" like Dana Milbank and Chris Cillizza in the teeth, I just might do the same for CJR. I suspect these embarrassments to our profession are unable to experience shame, but we must keep trying!

where have you been the last 30 ywears?
the rabid right has been successfully pulling off similar stunts to embarrass the so-called 'librul' meida for decades. What's the difference between Media Watch and the Heritage Foundation, or that outfit run by that odious ginger-haired crypto-fascist fanatic whose name blessedly eludes me?
Only that the Media Watchers are unabashedly of the "Left."

The effort to silence anyone who dares to speak against Our Great and Merciful Dear leader continues unabated. At this rate, any dissent will be considered a criminal act. Lou Dobbs is to be admired for standing tall and firm regarding Obama's eligibility. The hysterical defense released by his protectors changes nothing. A real. long form birth certificate, the kind you must produce to get a job, or cruise to the Bahamas, has yet to be released. Lets end this debate once and for all shall we? Release Obama's birth certificate just as John McCain and every other aspiring American President has done. It would end the controversy and be fun to watch the Nazis at Media Matters throw their money away to boot. So Dear Leader, please, just show us the birth certificate.

The "Most transparent administration in American history" has refused to provide more then just a valid, hospital generated, long form birth certificate. This from World Net Daily:
"Obama's birth certificate is not the only document at issue. WND has reported that among the documentation not yet available for Obama includes his kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, files from his years as an Illinois state senator, Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and his adoption records."
Anyone not immersed in the vast sea of love for Our dear Leader would have to wonder, why the secrecy?

World Net Daily, Badfoot? Seriously? That's not news, nor a legitimate source for facts.
