At the end of the hour-and-a-half-long taping, the group had circled around a host of complex questions, teasing out subtleties and tangents that led to more questions than conclusions. Bishara, hoping to come to some kind of consensus, asked the panel, “So we can all agree that the marriage of what’s happened to the social movement for justice, with social networks, has reinvented Egypt as we see it today?”
Bernstein balked, “Why do we need a definitive answer to all of these questions?”
The answer to that question, at least, was easy, and Shirky and Bishara gave it in unison: “It’s television!”

An attention-grabbing dialogue is value comment. I believe that you need to write extra on this matter, it may not be a taboo subject but usually people are not sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers.

Sitting in Norhern Europe, I find Al-Jazeera English an outstanding TV network in order to get a grip on world afffairs. I regularly compare it to CNN International and BBCWorld and Al-Jazeera provides a very good competition to those channels. It is a shame that Al-Jazeera is not avavaliable to the vast majority of our western cousins in America. There are not many truly international channels as most networks has a national base, such as SkyNews and CNN. Most major networks in the US wich I view streaming over the Internet, such as CNN, MSNBC are mainly local News for the US audience mixed up with some international headlines. Of course, CNN and CNN International are two different TV channels. But after watching CNN International, CNN, BBCWorld and Al-Jazeera at the same time I can say (as an independent news consumer) that I get the best understanding of world affairs with Al-Jazeera. As a European, I urge my American cousins to check Aljazeera English out.
