CJR gets new editor and publisher

July 29, 2016

We are very pleased to announce that Kyle Pope will become the next editor and publisher of Columbia Journalism Review.

Kyle is a wonderful journalist and editorial leader with wide-ranging experience. He spent a decade as a reporter, foreign correspondent, and editor at The Wall Street Journal before joining Conde Nast’s late Portfolio magazine as deputy editor, where, among other accomplishments, he edited the Michael Lewis cover story that later grew into the book and movie The Big Short. He also served as editor in chief of The New York Observer.

More recently, Kyle has been engaged in local journalism as the editor in chief of hyper-local newspapers in Manhattan, while also editing books and special magazine issues.

He emerged from a large and strong field of candidates because of his high standards, wide-ranging leadership skills, and experience, his understanding of how technology is upending journalism, and his strong vision for the Review’s role and future amidst change in our profession.

We will be very excited to welcome him in September.
