Two Iraqi translators for the New York Times, Mudhafer al-Husaini and Sahar S. Gabriel, have received refugee visas to come to the United States. They are blogging about their experiences at nytimes.com.
Writes Gabriel, of her recent arrival in Detroit:
I keep repeating to myself: “Don’t panic, but you’ve made it.” I am now on the other side of this war. The less violent side.

Thanks for the info.

i have friend currently living in kurdistan. we have decided that he should come to the US so we can start a life together. He works extremely long hours, one day off every other day, and very little pay. i am not rich by any means, i make a modest income so i can provide for him when he gets here.i was told that i had to have a large income in order to sponsor him. i was also told that it would be hard for him to get a visa because he is from iraq. it is hard for him to even get time off from his job to go and apply. he has to be on call 24 hrs a day. i know that you and your family came to the US from iraq so i would apprecite any info or advice you could give me. i love this man and i fear for his safety everyday. i just don't know how to go about getting him here. please anything you can tell me i would really appreciate. thank you so much
