Here’s an Associated Press article that pretends to be about what the White House offers child residents (“an unparalleled view of history in the making, and worldly experiences other children can only dream of”) when it’s really about what child residents in the White House offer us, the press. Which is to say:
Seriously, how heartbreaking is this photo? Amy Carter shuffling to her first day at the Thaddeus Stevens (public!) School in 1977, Snoopy book bag in tow, head down, no doubt nervous for so many reasons already, nevermind the scrum (quaintly small and restrained by today’s standards) of plaid-panted, shearling-coated news photographers in her grill.
