Thanks to a CJR reader for pointing us to The Onion News Network’s sharp parody of the always cringe-making, often crass product placement/promotion woven into the typical morning news show — in this case, it is Today Now!’s “Home Depot Fallen Heroes Tribute” in which the anchors, in the course of interviewing the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq (in a segment brought to you by Home Depot) awkwardly, shamelessly, steer the conversation back to appliances and tools. “You know from the pictures it looks to me like he’s the kind of guy who would really like the Bosche dual-level slide miter saw with laser-tracking.” )
