Right Down the Middle, and Big as a Pumpkin

May 25, 2005

It’s only Wednesday, but we’re ready to call it a game and give Sean Hannity our “Biggest Softball of the Week” award for his performance last night on Fox’s “Hannity and Colmes.”

Hannity’s guest, James Dobson, president of Focus on Family, was on to discuss his opposition to yesterday’s compromise on the filibuster issue hammered out by members of both parties.

Hannity served up this high, fat one:

Dr. Dobson thank you for being with us. You have been attacked personally on this. You mentioned this group — the Interfaith Alliance Group — that compared you and Focus on the Family to the Gestapo. Vice President Al Gore — former vice president — referred to you as “part of an aggressive new strain of [a] virulent faction of fundamentalists.” You’ve been called a “half-nut”, a “jerk”, a “pinhead.” You pointed this out in your own column. Why the hostility to you when all you’re saying is you want to keep in place a 214-year tradition and not change the tradition or rules that have been in place?

When da moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie…
