A Ham Handed Pairing

October 15, 2009

Slate’s media critic Jack Shafer has put together a nice collection of contemporary New York magazine covers that, he writes, “depending on your point of view … can be called homage, derivative, or robbery” when viewed alongside the work legendary designer George Lois did for Esquire in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

Take a look at the slideshow comparing the covers yourself. I’m with Shafer on slides 1, 2, 3, and 5—the resemblance is striking. I’ll give him slide 6, and—very grudgingly—slide 4.

But the seventh?
