The website for The Jewish Daily Forward has been revamped as part of a push to focus once again on daily news—the once Yiddish-only paper cut back to a weekly in 1983. the same year it launched its now dominant English-language supplement. The estimable English-language Forward launched in 1990.
According to a story behind the paywall at crain’s:
The weekly English-language paper that was once the nation’s premier Yiddish daily has just relaunched its website, adding new columnists like The Nation’s Eric Alterman, new blogs and content channels—and daily coverage.
“We had a very well-designed website, but it basically changed once a week,” said Forward Editor Jane Eisner.
The move to daily news is expected to attract more readers and advertisers. It could also help Forward.com compete with online rivals like Tablet Magazine, which recently landed the high-profile blog of journalist Jeffrey Goldberg, luring him away from The Atlantic‘s website.
